A Broad Assortment of Cars
We apologize for a lack of posts recently due to some severe technical issues, but we are now able to continue with the news!
The brand new McLaren MCL 32 was released on Friday the 24th. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it is a stunner in the looks and aerodynamics department! McLaren has gone for a very extreme approach on the rules, utilizing many, many elements on the front wing and re working their brake ducts in a very interesting fashion. The new 'rakes' that support the front wing are also very intriguing.
McLaren has also gone with a very large shark fin at the rear of the car to help sort the air in a more usable manner for the rear wing. It is a very good looking car, although the livery was a bit questionable at first, it seems to have been tied together well.
On February 23rd, we saw the release and the on track debut of the WO8 EQ Power+ at Silverstone. The wings on the car have not changed dramatically, but the barge boards area has been reworked entirely. Our technical analyst will feature that in more detail, but the amount of work Mercedes has put towards other areas of the car is truly remarkable. Mercedes is also said to have made "large improvements" in the off season to their power units, maybe not what fans wanted to hear.
It does appear also that Mercedes has put a lot of work into the side pods to slim down the openings and the overall size of them. One of the most noticeable differences is the fact that they have not opted for a shark fin. They have also changed their livery slightly to have more blue in it on the sides of the car, with some of the sponsorship logos on the side boards as well as much color being added.
Yesterday on the 24th, we also saw Ferrari's release of the SF-70 which has some very interesting and unique lines to it as well. The side pod openings are incredibly small, and the front wing has some curvature to it, giving it an interesting look. Maranello Has also used a very large shark fin, the largest so far, running the full length from the engine cover to the very edge of the rear wing and close to the diffuser. They also have removed a lot of the white livery as Ferrari sees white as 'bad luck', but has also kept good bit of it on, and it looks quite good as well. They have also opted for a smaller air-box in comparison to competitors Renault, Mercedes, and Sauber.
