Speeds already surpassing 2016

The first session of Barcelona testing for the 2017 season has already seen lap times eclipse the the fastest times of last year. The 2016 fastest lap of winter testing was held by Kimi Raikonnen setting a 1:22.765.

Two drivers, Felipe Massa and Sebastian Vettel have posted times under the previous mark.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo has been seen running a few shakedown laps at very low speeds. Other teems on track have been both Mercedes, Toro Rosso, HAAS, Renault driven by Nico Hulkenberg making his 2017 debut with the Enstone team, Sauber Force India, and one lap for the McLaren of Fernando Alonso after already dropping out with an oil system issue. Alonso is reportedly very unhappy to have already run into an issue after two woe-filled seasons
